This homeowner wanted to personalize their basic, new construction living space. They spend the majority of their time as a family in this space, so it needed to be beautiful while maintaining function and durability. The quote from the homeowner was, “We want to take this space from farmhouse to a glamorous ranch.” The family had recently purchased a large sectional they loved, so that was the jumping off point. Applying shiplap to the television wall and painting it black, gave the space a more modern, designer look. To transform the fireplace, the homeowner applied plaster over the existing tile surround and completely transformed it! Adding simple cabinets from the hardware store, created a built-in look for a fraction of the price. Pro-tip: We used upper cabinets for the depth we needed (12”). We repurposed their existing coffee table into a bench under the window. Adding pillows, layering rugs and multiple textures, help bring warmth and approachability to this living room.
